The Gaddang are renowned for their dense weaving and colorful ornamented costumes. The costume of the male warrior is usually complemented by a pair of Tangkil or arm bands. But these ones are spectacular samples. The hair of each one has been dyed red (most probably from an organic root dye.) The supports for the hair are made of bamboo and wax or resin fill, but wound with red, white and yellow threads that have been braided into a unique mata-mata or diamond pattern. The armbands have supports of woven rattan and brass coils, to prevent them from slipping during dances. The Bontoc Igorot and the Kankanai have Tangkil also, but theirs are much plainer in shape.
