A rare double –edged bolo with sheath HT: 111 CMS. |
One of the rarest and most unique weapons we have handled, this early blade and scabbard is a true museum piece. The double-edged blade is an archaic type, very similar to the Roman spada form, with two sharp edges meeting to form a sharp dagger point. The handle of the blade is wrapped in fibers. The sheath is a work of art in itself, with the handle in the form of a geometric lizard with deep grooves running along the sides. A small piece of metal ornamentation is attached to the mouth of the lizard. A string would have run underneath the lizard to attach it to the waist of the wearer.
